Information concerning flags.

Prussian Army Flags 1806.

When Friedrich Wilhelm III became King of Prussia, he introduced various changings for the infantry uniform wheras the flags of the infantry regiments underwent no changings since the Seven Years War period.

Each Regiment of infantry flew 1 "Leibfahne" flag and 3 "Regimentsfahnen" of identical pattern. This means 2 flags per battalion, the Leibfahne was carried by the first battalion.
There were different colour schemes used by the various regiments, basically deriving from a V-shaped or a wavy cross.
Within each regiment, one design scheme was used for all flags and the colours of the Regimentsfahne were reversed in the Leibfahne design. For the Leibfahne, white was the predominant colour of the flag whereas for the Regimentsfahnen the characteristic colours of the individual flag design scheme were predominant instead.

Flagstaves were natural brown for the vast majority of the regiments and about 10 feet long including a gilt spearpoint at the top. Silver and black ribbons, cords and tassels. ROFUR-FLAGS Nr. 1/72-82, 83, 84, 85 and 86 include information flagstaves colours.

Most of the Prussian flags were lost when the army had been defeated in 1806.

The flag was carried by a NCO called "Freikorporal". As a special sign of rank NCO´s carried a cane, fixed at one of the upper breast buttons, and an infantry sabre from a waitbelt. Collar, cuffs and lapels were laced in gold.
