Information concerning flags. Each regiment carried
one "Leibfahne" and a few "Ordinärfahnen (regimentel
flags) according to its number of battalions. The 1st battalion
(or squadron in the cavalry) of a regiment flew the predominantly
white leibfahne and one regimental flag. All other battalions had
2 regimental flags. Apart from the white coloured cloth of the leibfahne
and its different back with the Holy Virgin, most of the Austrian
flags followed an identical design.
Nevertheless Austrian regimental flags generally were of very characteristic appearance with its dominating black eagle on yellow ground, within the coloured zigzag frame and spirally painted pole.
