Prussian Cavalry Standards 1800-1815

After the defeat of Prussia in 1806, the scattered army was completely reorganized as a much reduced force in 1807/08.
Besides the cavalry of the guard and the landwehr cavalry formations the line cavalry during the 1815 campaign comprised but 4 regiments of cuirassiers, 6 regiments of dragoons, 8 regiments of uhlans and 12 regiments of hussars.

Cuirassiers as well as uhlans carried the older standards that had predominantly been issued during the reigns of king Frederik II and Frederic William I, a confusing and colourful mixture of different patterns. Some cuirassier regiments 1808 were issued with old dragoon standards, some dragoon regiments flew former cuirassier or even hussar standards. Only few regiments were furnished with new flag patterns in time for the 1815 campaign - the most of the regiments that were established early 1815 received their standards after the hundred days.

Line hussars, uhlans and landwehr cavalry generally had their standards issued but after the 1815 campaign.

Prussian Army Uhlans lance pennons during the Napoleonic Wars period.

Uhlans of the line carried bi-coloured pennons on their lances. The combination of colours not only differed from regiment to regiment, but often lance pennons were coloured differently for each squadron within the same regiment.
Uhlans of the guard did wear the polish czapsk instead of the line uhlan´s shako.
Whereas their duty uniform jacket was the collet, on campaign uhlans wore the litewka, as shown with the figurs in the 8005 set. Instead of brass shoulder scales and chains on the shoulder belt, the line uhlan´s litewka had shoulder straps in regimental colours and no chains. On campaign, the shako was covered with a black oilskin.

In addition to the lancers of the line, provincial cavalry regiments as well as militia cavalry had been risen, dressed like uhlans and also equipped with the lance.

Also, in 1813 volunteer units like the "Freikorps v. Lützow" with its black uniforms or the "Streifkorps von Hellwig", the Hanseatic Legion or the Russian-German Legion, parts of both of these were equipped as lancers, established themselves.

In march 1815 the uhlan regiments 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 were raised. Their headgear also was the chapska. The uhlans of the above mentioned volunteers 1815 were emerged into the newly risen uhlan regiments within which they kept as seperate squadrons and - due to shortage of new regulation uniforms - temporarily continued to wear their already existing dress and pennons.

Lance staves were natural wood with steel fittings and head.
